Privacy Policy
The short version: Parlo has no accounts and no trackers. Your voice goes straight from your device to our speech partner to be transcribed and translated; it never passes through our servers. Your conversation history stays on your device. Our servers only know an anonymous ID and how many seconds it has used.
Who we are
Parlo ("the app") is made by Codenoodle ("we", "our", "us"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the app and this website. It should be read together with our Terms of Use.
The microphone and your audio
Parlo needs microphone access to hear the conversation. Audio is captured only while you are recording: nothing listens when the app opens, and pausing, stopping or leaving the app closes the microphone.
While you record, audio streams over an encrypted connection directly from your device to Soniox, the speech service that transcribes and translates it and sends the text back to your device. We do not receive, record or store your audio or the text of your conversations. Soniox processes the audio to provide the service, under its own terms and privacy policy, and reports to us how long each session lasted so we can count your minutes.
You grant microphone access through your device's standard permission prompt and can revoke it at any time in Settings. Without it, Parlo cannot translate.
What stays on your device
Saved conversations (the transcripts and translations in History), your language pairs and your settings are stored only on your device. You can delete conversations in History at any time, and deleting the app removes them.
What our servers keep
To count your free and paid minutes without an account, the app creates an anonymous ID the first time it runs and keeps its secret in your device's keychain. Our servers store:
- that random ID, a one-way hash of its secret, and when it was created;
- for each recording session, when it started and how many seconds it lasted.
That is all. We do not ask for your name, email address or phone number, and we cannot link the ID to you. Your IP address is used briefly to limit how many new IDs can be created from one network; we do not store it with your usage.
Purchases
Subscriptions and minute packs are bought through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the payment and tells the app what you have bought; we never see your payment details, card number or billing address. Apple's handling of those transactions is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
Analytics, ads and third parties
The app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising and no third-party trackers. Apart from Soniox as described above, we do not share data with anyone, and we do not sell personal information. Apple may give us anonymous, aggregated App Store statistics (such as download counts) that cannot identify you.
If you contact us
If you write to us through the contact page or by email, we receive your email address and your message. We use them only to answer you and keep them only as long as useful for support.
This website
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives the request in order to serve them. If you use the contact form, what you type is sent to our server so we can reply.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights
Because we can't tie the anonymous ID to a person, there is normally nothing about you for us to access, correct or erase. Deleting the app removes your history, settings and the ID's secret from your device. If you have written to us and want that correspondence deleted, ask and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Changes will be posted here with a new date. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
